Indian Register for Exercise Facilities (IREF) is the leading fitness industry body established to represent the voice of the industry, advocate policy changes and to enable in ensuring the quality and standards of the gyms and other fitness centers across the country.
IREF was formed under the aegis of Sports & Fitness Sector Skill Council (SPEFL-SC) with prominent members of the sports and fitness industry as its core committee members.
The SPEFL-SC is a Sector Skills Council under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, working with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and is mandated to impact 2.1 million people over ten years.

IREF aims to be an enabler for the fitness industry by helping them to maintain a competitive edge in the ecosystem and to advocate for the issues of the industry with Government stakeholders.
All affiliated fitness centres of IREF will be given unlimited access to the entire knowledge bank of SPEFL-SC.
Through our comprehensive and transparent grading system (which have been derived keeping in mind Indian fitness industry, after extensive discussions with Indian and international experts), IREF accredits the gyms / fitness centers ranging from 3 to 5 stars. The accreditation is based on the indicators that co-rates the standard and the quality of the fitness centers basis on the availability of the facilities.
In addition to accrediting the fitness centers for national-level standardization of quality, IREF also provides networking opportunities with national and international fitness communities, facilitates debate and discussion with the policymakers to enhance the quality and the landscape of the fitness industry.
The grading parameters differ depending on the type of fitness centers e.g. gym, yoga center, aerobic centers, etc.
